UNISON ABERDEENSHIRE
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
21 FEBRUARY 2007

MOTION 2

SINGLE STATUS IN ABERDEENSHIRE

This AGM expresses it thanks to those members who took part in the consultation process on the Council's Single Status proposals.

UNISON organised a series of "walk in" surgeries for members to get advice on the Single Status proposal. The meeting notes that this allowed as many as 900 members to meet representatives face to face, obtain advice and register their concerns and queries on the proposal.

As a result the Council amended the offer in a number of areas and also amended the "mapping" of a number jobs within the job families. This was made possible by the strength of views expressed by such a large number of members and is proof of the view that the more people we speak for - the louder and stronger can be our voice. As a consequence of this level of activity the branch has increased its membership by over 12%.

The meeting also notes that the Council will be undergoing a series of Service Reviews which could result in some employees being the subject of "job redesign" and change. It is important that UNISON is fully involved in this process and continue to support and advise members as appropriate.

This meeting calls on the Branch Committee to

  • Seek to strengthen our network of stewards and workplace contacts to help the branch deal with the intense workload which will occur over the coming months
  • Work with the other Trade Unions (GMB and T&G) to promote a Joint Trade Union position
  • Continue the practice of "getting out" to listen and support the membership
  • Continue to issue clear and concise briefings to members through the implementation and appeals process
  • Draw on the resources of the union at Scottish and UK level to supplement available branch resources
  • Continue to encourage the membership to take an active role in their Trade Union.

Proposed: Branch Committee
