27th October 2010
Bob bows out after 25
years
After 25 years as Branch Secretary, first of all with NALGO
and latterly with UNISON, Bob Revie has decided to take early
retirement.
Bob is well respected across UNISON at local, Scottish and
National level, where he has served in many roles and was Vice
Chair of the Scottish Local Government Committee for many years.
Bob has also served as Scotland representative on the Standing
Orders Committee of National Delegate Conference for the past
three years.
Bob is held in high regard by those of us in the Branch who
have worked with him across the years and will be greatly missed
by us all, lay members and staff alike. We wish him all the very
best in his retirement.
Below is a final communication from Bob to the Branch.
"Dear Member,
On 31 October 2010 I retire from Aberdeenshire Council and
all UNISON positions.
In this, my last note to you I want to thank the Branch Officers,
Stewards, UNISON Staff and members, past and present for their
support over the 30 years over which I have been a union representative.

Bob speaking at Conference |
It has been an honour to serve UNISON Aberdeenshire and its
members over the years. I have been able during that time to serve
the union in a number of different ways at local, Scottish and
UK levels.
I have always tried to make a positive contribution which
was in the best interests of the membership.
From these varied experiences I have a store of friendships
and memories which I will hold onto.

Bob with branch on the Stop the Cuts Rally April 2010 |
25 years ago I reluctantly agreed to become Branch Secretary.
At the time this was "only for a few years" but I discovered that
I had chosen a way of life, or possibly it had chosen me.
I could not have served in this way without the support of
Aberdeenshire Council and that of the former Grampian Regional
Council. As employers they have recognised the vital role that
UNISON has in the conduct of collective bargaining and representation.
I very much hope that this will continue in the coming months
and years.
Public Services and Local Government in particular face difficult
times but the branch are lucky to have a strong team of officers
and Stewards who will take UNISON forward.
To them and my colleague Inez Teece who takes over as Acting
Branch Secretary on 1 Nov. 2010, my very best wishes. If I can
help in any way, just call.
To you, the member, thank you, good luck and farewell.
Bob Revie
BRANCH SECRETARY
UNISON Aberdeenshire"
