Thumbs up for Activists Information and Training Session 14th May

The activists who attended the Information and Training session on Thursday 14th May had a chance to discuss what the branch does and what the key issues are for the branch at present.

They also identified a number of issues important to them and their members and planned how best to take these forward. These were: the impact of the school technical review on janitorial staff; ensuring that the voice of nursery nurse members are heard in the review of working practices for nursery school staff; and how best to encourage and support stewards in the workplace.

Tricia Morrison"We were very pleased that so many activists attended and were keen to take part. The evaluations were all positive and everyone seemed to think it was a worthwhile event," said Tricia Morrison, Joint Branch Development Officer and co-organiser of the event along with Inez Teece.

"Activists particularly enjoyed the chance to meet others and to find out a bit more about who's who in the branch, and what it is that we all do, from full-time staff to Branch Officers, to stewards and contacts to members."

"We will now be looking at how best to support our activists in taking forward the key issues which they identified and in making sure that all stewards and contacts have the support they need in supporting and representing members.

Branch Information and Training Session 14th May 2009

The information and training session, which had to be cancelled in December has been rearranged for Thursday 14th May 2009 from 1.00 to 4.00 p.m. The venue will be confirmed when we know the number attending.

"We are hoping that this session will give activists the opportunity to discuss the role of the branch, the officers, stewards, contacts and members. We would like you to feel part of your branch and to get to know the people that work alongside you for the benefit of the wider UNISON membership," said Tricia Morrison, who is working alongside Inez Teece as Joint Branch Development Officer. "There will also be discussion on how we can improve our branch structure."

A lunch will be available and refreshments through the afternoon. Letters have gone out to our list of stewards and contacts. However, if you don't get a letter and would like to come, please phone Tricia or Mona on 01224 620624.

Tricia added, "As this is a training day you will be entitled to paid time off to attend and the branch will reimburse travelling expenses. If you require any further details or information please give me a call. I look forward to seeing you on 14th May."

Branch Information and Training Session 4th Dec 2008 cancelled

The branch has had to cancel the information and training day arranged for Thursday 4th December from 1pm to 5pm.

Inez TeeceInez Teece, Assistant Secretary, who had arranged the event along with Emma Phillips, the Regional Organiser said, "Unfortunately we have had to cancel this event due to a lack of participants being available. However, we hope to reschedule in the New Year."

The branch had invited stewards and activists to attend an information/training session with a festive buffet and mince pies served throughout the afternoon and it is hoped that a similar event in the Spring will attract a greater number of activists.

"The session will give an opportunity to discuss the role of the branch, the officers, stewards, contacts and members," said Inez. "We would like activists to feel part of the branch and to get to know the people who work alongside them for the benefit of the wider UNISON membership. It will also be a chance to look at how we can improve our branch structure."

As this is a training day, members will be entitled to paid time off to attend this event, and the branch will refund travel expenses.

If you would like any further information, or would like to attend a rearranged event, please contact Inez Teece or Mona Thom on 01224 620624.
