Local Government Pay

Developing the pay claim
UNISON Scotland's Local Government Conference is responsible for developing UNISON's local government pay strategy in Scotland. Representatives of all Local Government branches attend the Scottish Local Government Conference and, after consulltation with the wider membership, agree the terms of the pay claim from a UNISON perspective.

Our negotiators then consult with the other Local Government trade unions (GMB and Unite) and agree a joint negotiating position. The agreed pay claim is then put to the Scottish Joint Council, which is made up of representatives from the three trade unions and CoSLA and negotiations begin.

The progress of these negotiations is reported back to branches and to the Local Government Conference. This forum is key to representing the views of the wider membership and deciding on action in support of the pay claims.

The branch delegates to the Scottish Local Government Conference for 2016/17 are: Inez Teece, Kate Ramsden; Susan Kennedy; Steve Gray; and Ann Gray. Inez and Susan are on the Scottish Local Government Committee, where Inez is one of the Vice-Chairs.
