UPDATE 26 January 2007
ABERDEENSHIRE COUNCIL SINGLE STATUS
Talks continue to find way forward
Firstly, many thanks to those of you that took the time to respond
to our ballot on the single status proposals.
The results were:
- Ballot papers issued 1967
- Ballot papers returned 937 (48% return)
- Votes for the proposals 532 (57%)
- Votes against the proposals 397 (42%)
- Spoiled papers 8 (1%)
- Majority for 135 (15%)
This means that the majority of UNISON members voted to accept
the single status proposals issued by Aberdeenshire Council.
However, there remain a significant amount of members that are
unhappy with how the proposals will affect them and UNISON will
continue to work with these members and the Council to try to address
these issues.
As you may be aware, the other two trade unions involved in the
negotiations also balloted their members on the proposals. The majority
of members in both these unions, the TGWU and the GMB, voted to
reject the proposals.
These ballot results mean that Aberdeenshire Council is unclear
on a way forward - although the Council still indicate they wish
to implement singe status through agreement with all three unions.
All three trade unions will continue to talk to Aberdeenshire Council
over the next few weeks and UNISON will endeavour to find a way
forward for our members.
Please be aware the implementation date for single status is still
intended to be 1 January 2007 which means that once single status
is implemented any increase in pay and allowances arising from single
status will be backdated to that date. Aberdeenshire Council will
not claim back any overpayment in allowances, etc, paid out between
1 January 2007 and the agreement date.
UNISON will write to you again soon to keep you informed.
