Aberdeenshire Council Single Status
UNISON members employed by Aberdeenshire Council have voted
in favour of acceptance of the Council's Single Status proposals.
1967 ballot papers were issued of which 937 were returned (48%)
Of those 532 were for acceptance (57%) with 397 against (42%),
there were 8 spoilt papers (1%). Majority to accept 135 (15%)
Commenting on the result, Bob Revie, UNISON Branch Secretary said,
"Our members have expressed a clear position on the proposals and
we are encouraged at the high response level (48%) showing how important
this issue is to members. We had presented the proposal to our members
as the best that could be obtained by negotiation. While a clear
majority are in favour a significant proportion of our members were
unhappy with the proposals and remain to be convinced."
Bob went on "UNISON will take this result and enter into discussions
with Aberdeenshire Council to reach agreement on Single Status implementation."
Bob added "The other Trade Unions involved (GMB and T&G) have also
been balloting their membership within the Council, and the unions
will need to reflect jointly on all the results. The Joint Unions
are meeting on 23 January and later that day will meet with Council
representatives."
