"HELPING PEOPLE CHANGE THEIR LIVES"
- A MANIFESTO FOR SOCIAL WORK
UNISON Scotland, along with the British Association of Social
Workers (BASW) has recently launched a Manifesto
for Social Work.
The Manifesto contains ten demands that need to be addressed
to resolve key problems affecting social work in Scotland.
Kate Ramsden, Branch Chair and member of UNISON Scotland's Social
Work Issues Group said, "UNISON and BASW will now be campaigning
for those demands to be met, to enable all social work staff to
provide the best possible service to all their service users."
She added, "UNISON's recent survey of staffing has revealed
that the problems of social work stem from an increase in demand
across the whole range of services. This increase has not been
matched by any corresponding increase in resources.
"Both UNISON and BASW believe that this is leading to increasing
stress and burnout in dedicated and enthusiastic staff which needs
to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
"The Branch has sent out copies of the Manifesto to all
members in social work, along with a
short questionnaire to find out what you think of the manifesto
and whether you think there is more that can be done at a local
level to highlight the issues for social work.
"We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to
complete the questionnaire and return it to the UNISON Resource
Centre at the Freepost address by Friday 28th August."
