Susan Kennedy, Assistant Branch Secretary and Equalities'

UNISON Women's Conference held on 8th October, which heard how
women are bearing the brunt of this UK government's austerity
measures.
The conference was held a debating room at the Scottish Parliament
in Edinburgh. Guest speakers included Elaine Smith and Jackie
Baillie MSPs for the Labour Party, Clare Adamson MSP for the SNP
party and Alison Johnstone MSP for the Green Party, Ann Henderson

Branch delegate Susan said, "The conference focussed on the effect
of government cuts to women around Scotland and highlighted the
fact that women were at the forefront of these cuts.
"We looked at the effect of these cuts on our women members across
the country from local government to health workers and the impact
on communities and families."
After taking part in the morning's lively debates, Susan was
elected as one of two delegates to the STUC Women's Conference.
The conference agreed to submit motions on 'Pensions' and 'Cuts
in Public Services - impact on the workforce' to the STUC Women's
Conference in Nov 2011 and to UNISON's National Women's Conference
in Feb 2012.
