Teaching Support Staff
Your chance to tell us what you think
UNISON has arranged a series of meetings for teaching support
staff, that is, classroom assistants and support for learning
auxiliaries. The details
of the meetings are listed below and you are encouraged
to attend the one nearest you.
The purpose of the meetings is to feedback to you on some of the
issues that are currently affecting you and your job - including
the proposal to introduce the new role of learning assistant. We
will also be able to feedback on the equal pay claim lodged by classroom
assistants.
We will also tell you the findings of the first phase of the Equal
Opportunities Commission formal investigation into the role and
status of Scotland's classroom assistants, called Valuable
Assets.
This shows that teaching support staff are working at high levels
of responsibility but are paid at the lower end of local government
pay scales. Phase 2 of the research is now underway.

This will also be your opportunity to let UNISON know your issues
and your views. If any of your colleagues who are not UNISON members
would like to come along - please encourage them to do so - there
will be an opportunity to join the union at each of the meetings.
We have not been able to arrange meetings at all schools but have
