Update 23rd January 2007
ABERDEENSHIRE COUNCIL SINGLE STATUS
Unions and Aberdeenshire Council in talks
over Single Status
UNISON, the GMB and the T&G all balloted members on the council's
single status proposals at the beginning of January. UNISON members
voted to accept by a 15% majority on a 48% response. The two other
unions had similar return rates, but members of both unions voted
to reject the council's proposals.
The joint trade unions, UNISON, GMB, and T&G, met Aberdeenshire
Council officials on Tue, Jan 23 for further talks on the Single
Status proposals following the outcome of the ballots.
The talks were productive in identifying areas of agreement and
outstanding issues of concern, with a view to reaching an agreement
within the next few weeks, subject to further consultation with
employees.
All parties agreed to make no further comment until after they
consult further within their own organisations, and a joint
statement to this effect was released to the press.
A further meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February
6.
