Equalities team “Time to talk” sessions provide safe space for members

#YDW22 As part of the Year of Disabled Workers, the branch Equalities team has organised a series of “Time to Talk” online events.

Branch disabled members’ officer, Clare Taylor-Brown explains, “At the event for Time To Talk Day early February, as a part of our programme for Year Of Disabled Workers #YDW22,  a need was identified by attendees for a safe open online drop-in space for people to have the opportunity to be open about disabilities and mental health matters, sharing experiences and concerns.”

Two events have been held so far and members have valued the opportunity to safely share their experiences of disability and other discrimination in the workplace and elsewhere.

Clare added, “These are open events and an opportunity to participate safely in 1-1 listening and talking, or safe small group listening and talking, in an online space.

“Members of the Equalities Team are there to listen to members  and their experiences around mental health and inequalities.

“We understand that this can be difficult and would like to assure our members that we are happy to share with them our own situations and experiences of disabilities and mental ill-health.”

Watch out for the next Time to Talk session.
