Aberdeenshire UNISON has launched a petition calling on the council to rethink its proposal to make one of the Gordon House facilities assistant posts redundant.
The branch fears that the loss of one of the posts will have a big impact on the health and safety of staff and visitors to the building. These concerns are shared by many of the staff who signed the petition in large numbers in only three days.
Steve Gray, Branch Chair said, “The staff have told UNISON of the key importance of the facilities assistants to the smooth running of the services provided from Gordon House and their concern that the loss of a post will significantly impact on this and on the day to day health and safety and effective working of the staff.
“UNISON also believes that there are also equalities issues associated with these proposals, for example for women lone working in the evenings. The branch has therefore asked for an Equailites Impact Assessment on this proposal.”
The branch has already sent several pages of the petition, signed by over 150 workers, to Facilities Management in the hope that the views of staff will be taken into account as part of the consultation process on this proposal.
